Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Bali is a cultural site that will host the Welcome Dinner of the Annual Meetings of IMF-WGB 2018. The 28-year old culture arena is believed will well represent the Annual Meetings of the IMF-WGB 2018 as world’s biggest event in economy sector.
The landscape of the GWK region isn’t only magnificent and beautiful but also is well-ordered as an art and culture venue. It is situated at the height of 263 meters from sea level, making visitors able to view the fascinating scenery, especially sunsets, from the coast of the Bali’s southern parts.
One of the main objects in the area is the GWK statue that is initiated by one of the country’s best artists, I Nyoman Nuarta. The statue is currently on completion process. Last month, a 4-tons statue head was just put on. The overall statue is expected to be completed by this August.
The statue is made from copper and steel as heavy as 4,000 tons. It will be 121 meters in height with Garuda wing that will stretch about 60 meters. Anyone living in Kuta and Sanur areas will still be able to view the statue given its planned 20 km visibility span. The GWK statue will be the world’s second tallest, surpassing that of the Liberty statue.
I Nyoman Nuarta applies world cultural forum concept to design spaces, such as convention hall, museum, and gallery, lobby, viewing the gallery, viewing restaurant, multimedia theatre and commercial space, at the GWK pedestal statue. Visitors will be able to go up to the chests of the Lord Vishnu or at the 22nd floor to enjoy the beauty of the Bali panorama.
The primary attraction of the GWK arena isn’t only about the statue, but also a water source next to the statue. The water source is said to have never been dry, shaping a waterfall emerging from limestone hill.
In addition, Amphitheatre and Street Theatre inside the GWK area routinely showcase some tourism attractions, such as Barong dance, Keris dance, Kecak dance, Joged Bumbung dance, Kera dance, Rangda dance and many other Bali traditional dancing performances or parades.
