Mask and puppet are very closely related to the history and culture of Indonesia. Puppet is original art form from Indonesia. Its existence has been known since 1,500 BC. In 2003, puppet is included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Setia Darma House of Mask and Puppet is the best place to visit for those wishing to look at thousands of mask and puppet collection.

The House now collects 1,300 masks and 5,700 puppets. All of them are well-ordered and maintained. Some are even put in glass cabinet.

Setia Darma Mask and Puppet House doesn’t only gather masks and puppets from regions in Indonesia but also from various countries. At the House, there are masks from China, Mexico, Italy, Sri Lanka, Laos, Vietnam and others in Africa.

The place doesn’t only serve as a house for showing thousands of collection rich of art and cultural values, but also as a place to educate anyone wanting to visit. Each mask and puppet collection is completed with a narration telling the origin of the mask and the puppet thus guests will know various forms of expression, colour, anatomy, size and decorative ornament made from masks.

Setia Darma Mask and Puppet House is located at Jalan Tegal Bingin, Kemenuh Village, Gianyar. It opens from 8 am until 4 pm.
