No Structural Damage in The Nusa Dua Area After The Earthquake in Lombok
There is no structural damage in hotels and convention centers in the Nusa Dua area after an earthquake and subsequent aftershocks hit Lombok Island Sunday evening (August 5). According to the spokesperson of Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Mr. Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, most of the damage and casualties are in the North Lombok area --around 200 kilometers from Nusa Dua, Bali.
The earthquake is measured at 7.0 magnitude on Sunday evening. The epicenter is located 18 kilometers northwest of East Lombok Regency. It was the second after a 6.4 magnitude quake hit the province on last Sunday (July 29).
Ninety-one people have been killed and more than 200 injured from the recent quake in Lombok. In Bali, there are two casualties because of heart attack. There was no significant disruptions to the airports in Lombok and Bali. Flights from both airports continued to operate on Sunday evening.
The IPT will continue the preparatory work for the IMF-WBG 2018 Annual Meetings (AMs) and have coordinated closely with the Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) as well as BNPB, to assure the preparation of the AMs remains on track.(*)
